The Office of Visiting Students assists individuals who wish to take part in the BYU experience as non-degree seeking students. The office is a resource center for all students not admitted to BYU who are looking for opportunities to attend BYU courses without going through the full admissions process. Additionally, the office directly offers three programs for non-degree seeking students and academic advisement for students in these programs. Whether students are looking to take one course or visit for a few semesters, the office is available to help.
Undergraduate Visiting Student:
Students who have earned a high school diploma (or equivalent) may sign up as Undergraduate Visiting Students. During fall and winter semesters these students may register for course sections offered by BYU Evening Classes and the Salt Lake Center. Students signed up during the spring and summer terms may also register for courses offered during the day in Provo. Non-degree-seeking students who would like to complete several GE courses or who would like to attend mutliple semesters should refer to the BYU FlexGE program for more information.
Post-Baccalaureate Visiting Student:
Students who have earned a bachelor’s-level degree may sign up as Post-Baccalaureate Visiting Students. During fall and winter semesters these students may register for course sections offered by BYU Evening Classes and the Salt Lake Center. Students signed up during the spring and summer terms may also register for courses offered during the day in Provo. Additionally, students who apply by the posted priority deadline in fall and winter semesters may seek permission to add day-section registration eligibility (approval is not guaranteed and is based on several factors).
Audit-Only Students:
Students who have earned a high school diploma (or equivalent) may sign up as Audit-Only Students. The course(s) Audit-Only Students sign up for must be taken by audit, and students must receive permission to audit from the instructor and/or department. Audit-Only Students may register for Day, Evening, and Salt Lake Center sections year-round. Audit-Only students may sign up with the Office of Visiting Students once the application for a semester/term opens; registering for courses opens on the first day of the semester/term. Students who would like to audit select courses while concurrently enrolled in classes for credit should refer to the "Auditing Courses" registration policies.
All students signed up through the Office of Visiting Students agree to abide by the Church Educational System Honor Code and the BYU Dress and Grooming Standards. Class schedules for each semester or term are listed in the BYU class schedule, the Evening Classes and Salt Lake Center websites, and in the university's online registration system.
