Effective Research and Writing

Learning Outcome

The student will be able to apply effective search strategies to locate and to evaluate information on Asia in all formats (print, electronic, microform, video, DVD) and of all types (books, articles, reference materials, etc.). The student will be able to employ proper research skills to carry out research on a topic related to Asia and present results in oral and written academic reports.

Learning Outcome

The student can identify countries and major geographic features of Asia on a map. The student can relate basic facts about the history, economics, politics, society and cultures of the countries of Asia.

Learning Outcome

By completing ASIAN 200, you will become a more informed global citizen with greater empathy, and appreciation for Asian peoples, cultures, societies, and nations. You will develop a deeper understanding of the core values and historical developments that inform the contemporary actions of Asian peoples and Asian governments. Furthermore, you will come to understand the struggles and successes experienced by the citizens of various Asian countries in the recent past and how Asian peoples and their leaders are coping with present challenges.

By completing a research paper on a topic of your own choosing (approved by the instructor) you will be introduced to the excellent digital and print resources available in the library. Learning to use these resources will help you develop information literacy and information management skills that you will need to effectively pursue your own research questions in the future.
