Learning Outcome

Examine and evaluate the function and practice of public health nursing - Describe Public Health nursing roles. - Describe the influence of policy, environment, social determinants, value systems, behavior, and culture on the health of defined populations (domestic and global). - Apply the science of epidemiology to population-based nursing practice. - Communicate health information using health literacy principles to individuals, groups and populations. - Identify how current issues (e.g., health behaviors, communicable/ infectious diseases, environmental health, racism, social determinants of health, and bioterrorism) affect health at the individual, family, community, and systems levels. - Describe individual, community or systems-focused public health nursing interventions. - Develop public health interventions by utilizing the nursing process and incorporating concepts of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. - Deliver care for individuals, groups and populations by applying inter- and intra-professional collaborative skills.

Learning Outcome

Advocate and create change at the individual, community, and organizational level by interpreting and applying key principles of population-based nursing. - Assess the health of a defined population by using population based assessment techniques and health indicator data. - Diagnose public health problems based on the information gathered in the population assessment. - Provide public health nursing practice by applying the Public Health Interventions model and principles of social justice to population-based care. - Deliver health teaching and other public health nursing interventions by utilizing evidence-based practices. - Collaboratively develop a public health intervention plan. - Evaluate the public health nursing process. - Promote health by using behavioral change techniques. - Advocate for social justice and the health of vulnerable populations, and the elimination of health disparities.
