Programs

The BYU Marriott School of Business offers a variety of minors to help students prepare for work in the business world. With each of these minors, students will be exposed to the business principles and practices that are a key part of a BYU Marriott education. All of the minors available through the school complement a variety of majors offered at BYU. Each minor includes some of the prerequisites required for BYU Marriott major programs, so pursuing a minor is a great option if a student takes some of those classes and then decides to not pursue a major.

Business

A business minor is available to all interested BYU students who are not BYU Marriott majors. This minor covers the basics of business management and enables students to better understand the functions, departments, and jargon of the business world. It also provides additional skills and enrichment for a variety of majors.

Global Business & Literacy

A global business and literacy minor is available to all interested BYU students who are not BYU Marriott majors (BYU Marriott majors may complete the GMC’s Global Management Certificate instead). This minor is designed for students who have achieved a high level of competency in a second language and wish to supplement those skills with a strong introduction to international business. Any student who completes this minor is also eligible to pursue the Global Management Certificate.

Nonprofit Management

A nonprofit management minor is available to all interested BYU students, including BYU Marriott majors. The minor prepares students for employment and volunteer opportunities with nonprofit organizations. It helps teach practical skills such as fundraising, working with volunteers, and grant writing to assist students in their occupational goals. In addition to the minor, students can earn an Nonprofit Leadership Alliance National Certification in Nonprofit Management and Leadership.

Strategy (listed under Management Department)

A strategy minor is a limited-enrollment program available to all interested BYU students who are not BYU Marriott majors. The minor is designed to prepare students for initial jobs in management consulting, general management, or corporate planning/business strategy positions in large firms or startups. Students who are accepted into this minor will be part of a cohort that takes business strategy classes together over the course of three semesters.

Graduation Requirements

To receive a BYU bachelor's degree a student must complete, in addition to all requirements for a specific major, the following university requirements:

The University Core, consisting of requirements in general and religious education. (For a complete listing of courses that meet university core requirements, see here.)
At least 30 credit hours must be earned in residence on the BYU campus in Provo as an admitted day student
A minimum of 120 credit hours
A cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
Be in good standing with the Honor Code Office
